BOSTON – The Boston University Department of Athletics surpassed $1 million in gifts for the seventh consecutive BU Giving Day and nearly reached $1.4 million for the first time ever in a record-breaking day of support for Terrier student-athletes on Wednesday, April 3.
The BU Athletics community came together with 2,708 donors and impressive participation from alumni-athletes, parents and friends of each team. This year's competition included 250 contributions of $1,000 or more, with 41 being $10,000+ gifts, and 100 percent of the current student-athlete body contributed as part of the initiative.

"We could not be more thankful for the incredible showing of support from the hundreds and hundreds of alumni, families, friends and fans who are proud of their connection to BU Athletics," said director of athletics Drew Marrochello. "Whether it's a former student-athlete who has given every year since graduating decades ago or a relative of an incoming Terrier giving for the first time or anything in between, every gift is meaningful and impactful. Thank you to our development unit – headed by Kyle Shawgo – who worked with our coaches and staff to make Giving Day an overwhelming success once again."
In total, over $10 million has now been raised in support of Terrier student-athletes as part of the Giving Day movement. This year's final tally of $1,396,321 represented 36 percent of the $3.8 million raised in total across campus and is an all-time high for Athletics.Â
Team revenue head-to-head challenges took place with each varsity program matched up against another. Men's lacrosse, men's ice hockey, women's ice hockey, women's basketball, men's tennis, men's soccer, women's soccer, softball and field hockey were all victorious in their head-to-head match-ups to earn an additional $2,000 each.Â
Five programs 'beat their best' as part of this year's Giving Day campaign. Softball, women's track & field and cross country, men's hockey, women's soccer and field hockey recorded the highest amount of dollars raised in their respective program histories and will each receive an additional bonus.
