Q&A With Jake
- Why did you choose BU? "Having been born and raised in California, I wanted to experience somewhere entirely new for college. I grew up my whole life wanting to be a sports journalist or broadcaster, and BU COM was a perfect fit to move closer to that goal while playing out my college tennis career."
- What did you enjoy most about your BU experience? "I spent four years playing tennis, living with, and experiencing the great city of Boston with teammates who became my best friends and still are to this day. The entire BU Athletics experience and the community that came with it made my time so rewarding."
- How did your time at BU prepare you to get to where you are today? "While at BU, I was able to work in a variety of roles within the athletic department, including in development and event operations. The work experience that I gained, along with my experience as an athlete on and off the court, led me to pursue a master's degree in sport administration, which eventually led me into a career in coaching. I was exposed to so many successful coaches as well as caring and hardworking administrators and support staff. My tennis career led me to want to pursue meaningful work to better the overall experience for other young people during their athletic careers. The places I have been professionally are a direct reflection of my experience as a BU athlete."
- Why is it meaningful for you to be involved with the University, Athletics, and your team as an alumnus? "I love being a Terrier and I loved my time competing as a Terrier. As a team, our biggest goal was to win a Patriot League title. It was something that I and my teammates never achieved, but our same coaches have continued to work so hard toward bettering our program. The 2024 Terriers at last won the PL men's tennis title, and me and many teammates were beyond proud and ecstatic to see the program achieve what has been the ultimate goal since we moved into the league. Watching the tennis program improve since the time I left, and watching from afar the consistent excellence of programs like BU softball and hockey make me so proud to be a Terrier. Supporting men's tennis and BU Athletics has allowed me to strengthen relationships with my teammates and many other friends I made in college. To watch the programs we were part of achieve success continues to bring us closer together."
