In the final IRCA/IRA Men's Heavyweight Polls before the regatta, BU's Varsity 8 ranked 11th in the nation, just behind Northeastern and ahead of Cornell. The 2V8 also slotted 11th ahead of the Big Red and trailing Penn, while the 3V8 was eighth, behind Brown but leading Syracuse.
The Terriers seek to build off last year's results at the IRA Championship, where BU finished 10th in the Ten Eyck standings with 173 points. The Terrier V8 won the C Final in 5:44.166, while the 2V8 was second in the Petite Final, beating out crews from Syracuse, Cornell, Penn, and Northeastern. BU has finished 10th in the team standings at the IRA Championship in consecutive years.
In its most recent races back on May 19, BU competed at the Eastern Sprints in Worcester, Mass. The Third and Fourth Varsity 8 boats advanced to the Grand Final, while the Varsity 4 earned gold out of five crews. The V8 and 2V8 were second and third, respectively, in the Petite Final.
Fifty crews across men's and women's lightweight and men's heavyweight schools will embark on Mercer Lake for the IRA National Championship Regatta, which celebrates its 121st anniversary this year. The Princeton National Rowing Association will also co-host the event.
