BOSTON - Graduate student MIles Brewster went a near-perfect 10-for-11 from the field, including a career-best 5-for-6 from beyond the arc, to score a career-high 25 points and lead the Boston University men's basketball team to an 87-65 victory over Navy on Wednesday night at Case Gym.
Brewster's impressive performance was part of a strong night of shooting overall for the Terriers, who went 34-for-57 (59.6%) from the field. The Terriers (12-12, 6-5 PL) were dominant in the paint, outscoring the Midshipmen (8-16, 5-6 PL), 40-14, inside en route to their eighth straight home win.Â
Helped by four 3-pointers, sophomore
Michael McNair joined Brewster in double figures, scoring 18 points on 7-of-8 shooting. Every Terrier that played recorded at least six points with junior
Nico Nobili totaling nine points alongside a team-high seven rebounds and two steals.Â
Austin Benigni was one of three Mids to score in double figures with 23 points but was forced into committing five turnovers. Donovan Draper totaled 16 points and three steals, while Jordan Pennick recorded 12 points. Aidan Kehoe earned a game-high nine rebounds to help Navy double BU in second-chance points, 8-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Mike Woods hit a jumper for Navy at 14:33 to cut the deficit to 13-11, the Terriers went on a 12-0 run over a 3:26 span to take a commanding 25-11 lead midway through the first half.
- Navy eventually got it within five with under a minute to go in the opening period, but Nobili tipped home a rebound just before the buzzer sounded to send BU to the locker room with a 39-32 advantage.Â
- McNair opened the second half with a 3-pointer to give BU a 10-point lead, but Navy continued to hang around and eventually cut the lead to 46-41 at 16:56.
- BU quickly responded with an 8-0 spurt to push the lead to 54-41 at 15:38, but the Mids once again fought back and got it within seven, 56-49, with 13:10 to go.
- That's when the Terriers completely took over the game, beginning with a 9-0 run highlighted by a tough corner trey from Brewster and a nifty hook shot from Roy to make it 65-49.
- After two Navy free throws, the Terriers continued their strong shooting with back-to-back 3-pointers from freshman Azmar Abdullah and junior Otto Landrum to earn their first 20-point lead (71-51) with 8:00 to go.
- A McNair layup two minutes later extended the lead to 22 points, the largest of the night.
- Navy shortly thereafter got back within 15, but Brewster canned his fifth and final 3-pointer of the night with 2:19 left to prevent any chance of a late rally.
GAME NOTES
- Brewster became the fourth Terrier this season to reach 20+ points by surpassing his previous high of 21 points set twice during the 2023-24 campaign against Colgate and American at Case Gym.
- Brewster flushed five 3-pointers after combining for five over the last 11 contests. He beat his previous high of four 3-pointers set three times, including most recently at American a year prior.
- McNair has now hit at least four 3-pointers six times this season, including four times against PL opponents.
- The eight-game home win streak remains the longest since the 2010-11 squad finished its America East championship season with nine straight victories.
- The Terriers' 87 points marked their most against a Division I opponent this season following OT wins over Bucknell (85-82) and UAlbany (80-74) at Case Gym. BU's previous largest output in regulation was a 78-50 home victory against Dartmouth.
- Hosting Navy for the first time since eliminating the Mids in the 2024 PL quarterfinals, 70-61, BU reached a personal best 87 points in the series while improving to 15-12 all-time.
- The Terriers nearly doubled their offensive production from their 62-47 loss suffered back on Jan. 22 in Annapolis. They scored 80+ points for the third overall time after an 85-80 OT loss in 2022 and 83-72 victory in 2016 with both contests taking place at Alumni Hall.
