BU Athletics Records Eighth Straight $1 Million+ Giving Day
April 14, 2025 | General
BOSTON – The Boston University Department of Athletics surpassed $1 million in gifts for the eighth straight BU Giving Day on Wednesday, April 9.
The BU Athletics community came together with 2,731 donors and impressive participation from alumni-athletes, parents and friends of each team. Inside the department, participation was also high as 99 percent of the current student-athlete body contributed and 98 percent of Athletics staff made a gift as part of the initiative.
"We are truly grateful for yet another strong showing on Giving Day," said director of athletics Drew Marrochello. "The success of this initiative stems from our coaches and staff who have helped bridge lifetime connections to BU for thousands of alumni, family and friends. A sincere 'thank you' goes out to all who made a gift to help support our mission of providing a first-class experience to our student-athletes. I'd also like to recognize the hard work of our development team, led by Kyle Shawgo."
In total, over $11 million has now been raised in support of Terrier student-athletes as part of the Giving Day movement. This year's final tally of $1,233,112 represented 27 percent of the record-setting $4.5 million raised in total across campus.
As part of those totals, Athletics young alumni (classes of 2015-24) stepped up and the following programs reached their team's participation goals as part of the campaign to secure bonus funds: field hockey, men's basketball, men's rowing, softball and men's swimming & diving. In total, over 500 young alumni to date have now made a gift in support of their teams this year.
Team revenue head-to-head challenges took place with each varsity program matched up against another. Men's lacrosse, men's rowing, women's lacrosse, women's lightweight rowing, men's soccer, women's tennis, women's soccer, field hockey, women's swimming & diving and women's track & field and cross country were all victorious in their head-to-head match-ups to earn an additional bonus from the Department.
Two programs 'Beat Their Best' as part of this year's Giving Day campaign. Women's soccer and men's rowing recorded the highest amount of dollars raised in their respective program histories and will each receive an additional bonus. In fact, men's rowing is the first team to ever raise more than $300,000 as part of the 24-hour campaign and recorded the fourth highest total of dollars raised of any school, college or unit on campus.
There is still time to make a gift to positively impact BU student-athletes prior to June 30 by visiting www.GoTerriers.com/Donate or by contacting the Terrier Athletics Fund at 617-353-1063 or terriers@bu.edu.
