April 17, 2026 | General
BOSTON – For the ninth consecutive campaign, the Boston University Department of Athletics eclipsed $1 million in gifts during BU Giving Day on Wednesday, April 8, continuing a remarkable tradition of philanthropic support.
The BU Athletics community came together with 2,500+ donors and impressive participation from alumni-athletes, parents and friends of each team. Inside the department, participation was also at high levels, highlighted by contributions from 100 percent of the current student-athlete body.
"Crossing the $1 million mark for the ninth consecutive Giving Day is a remarkable testament to the generosity of our community," said director of athletics Drew Marrochello. "This campaign continues to showcase what makes our department special—our shared commitment to supporting our student-athletes. Thank you to everyone who helped make Giving Day a success once again."
In total, more than $12 million has now been raised in support of Terrier student-athletes through the Giving Day movement. This year's final tally of $1,277,343 accounted for 26 percent of the university's record-setting $5 million Giving Day total—the first time Boston University has surpassed the $5 million mark.
As part of those totals, Athletics young alumni (classes of 2016-25) stepped up and the following programs reached their team's participation goals as part of the campaign to secure bonus funds: Softball, Field Hockey, Lightweight Rowing, Men's Soccer and Men's Rowing.
Team revenue head-to-head challenges featured each varsity program paired against a competitor. Men's Rowing, Women's Hockey, Women's Lacrosse, Women's Lightweight Rowing, Men's Basketball, Women's Tennis, Women's Rowing, Women's Golf, Men's Swimming & Diving and Women's Track & Field and Cross Country all emerged victorious in their respective matchups, earning additional bonus support from the department.
For the first time, dollar-based goals were established as part of this year's Giving Day campaign, with Men's Basketball, Men's Rowing, Men's Soccer, Women's Rowing and Softball all successfully reaching their targets and earning additional bonus support.
Men's and Women's Rowing each recorded the highest fundraising totals in program history. Notably, this marks the second consecutive year that Men's Rowing has surpassed $300,000 during the 24-hour campaign, while also ranking as the fourth-highest fundraising unit across the University.
There is still time to make a gift to positively impact BU student-athletes prior to June 30 by visiting www.GoTerriers.com/Donate or by contacting the Terrier Athletics Fund at 617-353-1063 or terriers@bu.edu.
