Statement From Boston University Athletics
May 5, 2026 | General
The Boston University Department of Athletics has elected to opt in to the House v. NCAA settlement beginning in the 2026–27 academic year.
Over the past year, the Department has undertaken a comprehensive review of the evolving implementation of the House settlement across intercollegiate athletics, including its impact on peer institutions. This analysis focused on ensuring Boston University Athletics is appropriately positioned for sustained competitive strength and operational stability for short- and long-term success across all 24 varsity sports.
Following careful and deliberate consideration, the decision to 'opt in' was determined to be the most prudent and strategic course of action for the Department and University. As a member of the Patriot League and Hockey East, Boston University has a unique position within the college athletics landscape. The goals of our Department remain the same, as we strive to provide a first-class experience for our student-athletes at our world-class institution.
