BU Athletics Tops $5 Million in Total Support, Sets Annual Fund Record
July 22, 2026 | General
BOSTON – Thanks to the continued generosity of alumni, parents, friends and several significant gifts, the Boston University Department of Athletics completed another impressive fundraising year in 2025-26, highlighted by a record-breaking contribution to the Annual Fund.
For the fourth consecutive year, BU Athletics raised more than $5 million in total support while the Annual Fund surpassed $2.5 million for the first time in department history. In addition, Softball, Women's Rowing, Women's Swimming & Diving, Men's Soccer and Men's Basketball each set program records for dollars raised in a single fiscal year.
Notable highlights include:
Giving Day
On April 8, the Department of Athletics raised nearly $1.3 million during Giving Day, marking its ninth consecutive year raising more than $1 million through the campaign. The University surpassed $5 million in total Giving Day support for the first time, with Athletics contributing significantly to that record-setting effort.
Both Men's and Women's Rowing recorded the highest Giving Day totals in program history. Men's Rowing also surpassed $300,000 during the 24-hour campaign for the second straight year. More than 2,500 donors made gifts, including strong support from alumni, parents and friends. One of the initiative's most noteworthy achievements came through student-athlete participation, with 100 percent of BU student-athletes making a philanthropic gift in support of Athletics—a powerful reflection of the culture of generosity within the Terrier community.
Terriers Together
The Terriers Together campaign raised more than $570,000 during the three-day initiative held Oct. 14–16. For the sixth consecutive year, the BU community came together to support Terrier Athletics, resulting in a 57-percent increase in dollars raised compared to the previous year with more than 1,000 gifts received.
The final total was the second highest in the history of the campaign. Thanks to a generous match from Carrie and Tim Burr (MET'97), seven teams that reached their fundraising goals received additional bonus support, increasing the impact of this year's campaign.
Parent Participation
Parents and families continue to play an important role in supporting the student-athlete experience. During the fiscal year, 19 Athletics parents made gifts of $10,000 or more, the highest total ever recorded in a single year.
Major Gifts and Planned Giving
BU Athletics secured 13 commitments of $100,000 or more in support of key departmental priorities, underscoring the growing philanthropic momentum behind the department. In addition, 17 gifts were directed to team-specific endowments—including seven commitments of $100,000 or more—strengthening the long-term financial foundation for programs and future student-athletes.
New endowments were established for both Men's Basketball and Men's Rowing, creating additional resources for those programs in the years ahead.
Several commitments were made in support of capital projects and multiple transformative planned gifts, made through individual estates, were also received.
