Johnny Lax played a major role in elevating the status of Terrier hockey to the level of national prominence it maintains to this day.
Playing in the mid 1930s, Lax teamed with fellow Hall of Famer Paul Rowe to produce one of the most exciting and threatening scoring lines in University history. This gifted forward, whose stick-handling and playmaking skills were legendary, served as co-captain of the 1934-35 squad. After a slow start, he rallied the Terriers to five victories over their final seven games.
In 1936, Lax and Rowe were named to the United States Olympic
Hockey Team that captured a bronze medal in Munich. The duo
teamed up for three game-winning goals in the competition,
and set a precedent for the long line of Terriers who have
since participated in Olympic Hockey.
