Liz McDonough's four-year stay at Boston University's Sargent
College was filled with success at many levels and in many
different sports. As an undergraduate, Liz competed in the
All-School intramural program, earning first team honors in
basketball, fistball, and volleyball. In addition, she received
Sargent's Honor Auxiliary Award, the University's Scarlet
Key, and Sargent's Twiness Award.
Outside of school, Liz played for the Boston Field Hockey
Association and developed into one of the best goalies in
club history. She competed in three consecutive national tournaments
during her collegiate years, and earned United States honorable
mention status in 1956.
However, her devotion to sports was not limited to playing.
In 1953, when she obtained her first local rating for basketball
and softball, Liz was an official. By the next fall, she had
received a national rating in basketball officiating, and
a local rating for field hockey. In 1956, she gained a national
rating in softball as well.
