MISSION STATEMENT:
Our mission is to provide BU student-athletes and teams with high-quality sport psychology services and performance enhancement training that address the needs of the whole person, not just the athlete, and that maximizes overall well-being and sport performance.

PHILOSOPHY AND PURPOSE:
The development and maintenance of mental and emotional resources has been shown to benefit athletes in removing mental and physical barriers and clearing a path to excellence. Building awareness and understanding of how to manage such resources helps athletes in learning to consistently create an ideal mental climate that leads to optimal performance. Along with the strategic and physical coaching in which athletes engage, performance enhancement training adds a focus on mental skills and preparation that have been shown to improve performance and make it more consistent.

Performance enhancement training can help student-athletes:

  • Maintain the attention, focus, thoughts and emotions that lead to optimal performance
  • Manage and regulate emotions to achieve consistent performance
  • Remove mental and emotional blocks that are getting in the way of optimal performance
  • Strengthen the ability to perform under pressure and deal with adversity and setbacks
  • Conquer performance anxiety and fears of choking
  • Develop specific performance goals and a plan for handling the stress and challenges of training and competition
  • Overcome the effects of injury or a poor performance
The following skills are at the heart of mental conditioning:
  • Goal setting and values identification
  • Imagery
  • Confidence building
  • Improved self-awareness
  • Concentration and focus
  • Preparation, motivation and control
