David Padgett returns for his seventh season at Boston University. He primarily coaches the second varsity eight but also works closely with head coach Tom Bohrer in training all of the varsity team athletes. Padgett is also responsible for planning the team[apos]s travel, assisting in the team[apos]s recruiting efforts, helping with the day-to-day team operations, and overseeing BU[apos]s summer recreational rowing program. His passion for the program runs deep, as he rowed all four years as an undergraduate at BU. He rowed in the first freshman eight before spending sophomore year in the second varsity eight and junior and senior years in the first varsity eight. During his junior year, the first varsity eight had an excellent season, winning dual meets against Syracuse, Columbia, and Northeastern and claiming victory against Brown at the IRA Regatta. As a senior, he was elected team captain, earned the King Oar Award and was voted the team[apos]s Most Valuable Participant. Individually, Padgett competed in the CRASH-Bs Indoor Rowing Championships as a sophomore, junior, and senior and placed fourth in the Collegiate Lightweight Final junior and senior years. He also rowed for Boston[apos]s historic Riverside Boat Club in the summer of 1997 where he won gold medals at the US Rowing Club Nationals and Royal Canadian Henley in the Lightweight 4- and Senior Lightweight Eight events at both regattas. In the summer of 1998, Padgett was a member of US Rowing[apos]s Pre-Elite training camp lightweight eight that competed at the US Rowing Nationals Regatta. Later that summer, again as a member of Riverside Boat Club, his senior lightweight eight placed second at the Royal Canadian Henley. After graduation, Padgett spent one year coaching the College of William & Mary[apos]s varsity men[apos]s team in Williamsburg, Va. He spent 2000-01 working for a telecommunications company in Boston before returning to BU to work as a fundraiser in the Athletic Development Office from 2001-06. During this time he also coached master[apos]s rowing classes through BU[apos]s Physical Education, Recreation and Dance program. Padgett graduated from BU in 1999 with a bachelor[apos]s of science in exercise science. In the spring of 2008, he earned his master[apos]s degree from the School of Education, majoring in physical education and coaching. Padgett continues to compete both on and off the water, recently winning a medal in the Club 4+ event at the 2006 Head of the Charles and also ran in the 2007 Walt Disney World Marathon, his fifth marathon.
