BU Today (10.31.18): New Fueling Station for Student-Athletes
In an effort to both provide a first-class experience and support recovery and wellness with its student-athletes, the Boston University Department of Athletics unveiled in the spring of 2018 the Terrier Fueling Station. The new 500 square-foot facility is the result of NCAA-provided funds used to help renovate an underutilized storage space within the Strength & Conditioning Center and features three refrigerators filled with grab-and-go yogurt, protein drinks and smoothies. The service counter also has energy bars and made-to-order drinks (allergen-free, vegetarian and vegan options available). Â
Â
The station aims to provide student-athletes with convenient access to nutritious food, which is optimal for athletes in maximizing their energy, performance and recovery. In addition to providing hand-selected pre and post workout fuel, the station is also able to serve as an educational center via a partnership between Athletics and Sargent College.
The unique partnership with Sargent College also allows student-athletes to engage with students who are on the brink of their own nutritional careers. The Sargent students gain hands-on experience in the field of sports nutrition before graduation.
