Despite having limited opportunities to compete at the collegiate level, Helen Carroll Pratt displayed her numerous athletic talents before, during and after her undergraduate years at Boston University's Sargent College.
Prior to matriculating to Boston University, Pratt had attained numerous success in each tennis and swimming. On the courts, she was ranked fourth in singles and second in doubles in the New England 15-and-under category in 1938. In the pool, she was a member of the Boston Swimming Association, who finished first in the 100-meter freestyle at the 1940 state championships.
At Boston University, Pratt joined the Boston Field Hockey Association, commencing a lengthy relationship, that would surpass her stay at Boston University. In 1947 she was selected to the first team, which traveled to Rhode Island to participate in a tournament. The following year, Pratt again traveled with the club, venturing Winnetka, Illinois for the National Championships.
In addition to her competitive involvement, Pratt's participation in her chosen sports extended to additional capacities. She was a rated field hockey referee, and began teaching swimming at the Red Cross Aquatic school and organizing NEAAU swim meets, before officiating collegiate competitions.
A former teacher, Helen Pratt spent time at the University of Maine, Winchester H.S., Derby Academy, and Cohasset High School and Elementary schools.
