A three-sport standout at Arlington H.S., where he earned All-Scholastic honors in football, hockey, and baseball, "Ike" went on to nearly duplicate his high school honors in college.
An outstanding football player prior to being injured, Bevins was also equally proficient as a baseball catcher. But most of all, he was Boston University's first All-American hockey goalie.
All-East in hockey for four seasons, from 1946 to 1950, Ike earned All-America honors on the 1950 NCAA team, as well as making the All-Tournament Team. His teammates, who included John Darrity, Jack Kelley, and Walt Anderson, likewise honored him by voting him the MVP in his senior year.
After graduation from BU, Ike coached and taught in Arlington H.S., and was the supervisor of physical education for the town of Arlington.
