Women's Baketball Set to Begin

Season Debut for McKeon Saturday's game begins the 25th season of Boston University women's basketball and is the first game in the Margaret McKeon era. In 24 previous season openers, the Terriers have posted an 11-13 record. However, the team is 9-6 in season openers played at home.
Boston University/Colgate Series Notes The Terriers lead the all-time series, 3-1... B.U. won the last meeting, 83-63, on February 8, 1993 in Hamilton, NY... Andrea Killian led the Terriers with 18 points and seven rebounds... Andrea Higgins added 15 points and Jill Sosnak had 13... The series between the Terriers and the Red Raiders began in the 1989-90 season when the two teams squared off three times... The first contest took place in the second round of the LaSalle tournament, on December 29, 1989, where B.U. won 72-59... The Terriers were victorious again 19 days later, 62-48, in Boston... Colgate's only win in the series occurred on February 17, 1990 in Hamilton, NY, where the Red Raiders prevailed, 69-64.
Exhibition Recaps - Nov. 11 - Ilijara-Slovenia 73, Boston University 64 The Terriers never trailed in the first half and carried a 36-29 lead into the break... Slovenia stormed back in the second half, however, using a 16-0 run to put the game out of reach... Alison Dixon led the Terriers with a game-high 22 points, while Dia Dufault added 12... Freshman Alison Argentieri went 10-for-10 from the free-throw line in her Terrier debut, finishing with 10 points, three steals, and a game-high five assists.
- Nov. 14 - Nor'Easter Storm 81, Boston University 66 Boston University was plagued by 26 turnovers and three players fouling out, while Nor'Easter Storm shot .533 from the field in the second half to cruise past the Terriers... Dixon was again the team's top scorer with 23 points, and she added a game-high 12 rebounds to earn the double-double... Argentieri was a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the three-point line and 4-for-4 from the free throw line to finish with 13 points.
1999-2000 Captains Named Leading the Terriers into the millennium this season will be sophomore guard Annie Tomasini and sophomore forward Anne Nelson... Tomasini played in all 27 games last season averaging 1.2 ppg and 1.2 rpg... Nelson appeared in 22 games last season averaging 4.4 ppg and 2.3 rpg.
Looking Ahead to the 1999-2000 Season Though the Terriers return just one starter with junior Alison Dixon, there are 11 players who have had considerable playing time in the last two seasons... The Terriers completed the 1998-99 season with a disappointing 5-22 record, 2-16 in America East play... Since 1975-76, B.U. has accumulated an overall record of 304-310 (.495).
The "A" Team Four of today's starting five players for the Terriers have name first names beginning the letter "A", they are freshman Alison Argentieri, junior Alison Dixon, and sophomores Annie Tomasini and Anne Nelson.
Looking for a November to Remember The Terriers are 22-20 all-time in the month of November... B.U.'s best opening month occurred in 1994, when the team won both of its games... This years squad will equal the most games played in November with four. The 1983-84 team was 3-1 in November... After today's game with Colgate, the Terriers travel to Harvard on the 23rd to play the Crimson at 6 p.m., then head west for the Fresno State Tournament on Saturday, November 27 and Sunday, November 28... In Fresno, B.U. will play the hosts on the 27th and Boise State on the 28th.
Head Coach Margaret McKeon Hired on April 26, 1999, 31-year old Margaret McKeon is the fifth head coach in the history of the Boston University women's basketball program... A former standout point guard at St. John's University, McKeon brings a history of coaching success to the Terrier program... McKeon has served as an assistant coach at Arizona State (1991-93), the University of Houston (1993-95), and most recently, George Washington University (1995-99)... In four years at GW, McKeon helped the Colonials to three Atlantic-10 regular-season championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight finish in 1997 and a final number 10 ranking in the CNN/USA TODAY poll.
Terrier Dog Bites The Terriers return five of their top seven scorers and four of their top five rebounder leaders in 1999-2000... Junior forward Alison Dixon, the team's top scorer (17.3 ppg) and rebounder (6.2 rpg) in 1998-99, leads the 11 returning letterwinners... Overall, B.U. returns 61.8 percent (1,058-of-1711) of its points and 74.8 percent (668-of-883) of its rebounding totals from a season ago... Despite Dixon being the lone returning starter, four other Terriers averaged at least 13 minutes a game last season... Dixon has scored 20 or more points in 29-of-54 career games... B.U. was 5-3 last season when leading at the half.
Scouting the Red Raiders of Colgate Head coach Ron Rohn begins his fifth season with the Red Raiders... Colgate lost both of its preseason games, 80-61 to RTU Clondica Riga, and 101-100 in overtime to Syracuse AAU...Colgate is led by senior captains Leanne Nassar and Hollie Young... Parks averaged 25.0 ppg and 7.5 rpg in two preseason games and Boone notched 12.5 ppg and 5.5 rpg... Freshman Colleen McCaffrey scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in Colgate's 101-100 overtime loss to Syracuse AAU on November 16... The Red Raiders shot .41 % from the floor (60-of-146), .52 % from the free-throw line (32-of-61), and .50 % from three-point land (9-of-18) during the preseason...Colgate is 1-3 all-time versus the Terriers.
Quoting McKeon "It will obviously be a rebuilding year, but the team will be motivated and prepared. There are some young players on this team with good futures."
New Staff in Place McKeon has hired three assistants on her coaching staff - Jerry McLaughlin (Flagler 77) - Gabrielle Butler (Franklin & Marshall 85) and Cindy Blodgett (Maine 98)... A former head coach at Siena and Alaska-Anchorage, McLaughlin has also coached at Temple, New Mexico State, and Kentucky... Butler comes to B.U. after spending eight seasons as an assistant coach - four with Margaret McKeon - at George Washington University... Blodgett
Alison Dixon Earns America East All-Conference Honors Forward Alison Dixon earned 1999 America East Third Team All-Conference honors as voted by the league's 10 head coaches... Dixon, who hails from Norwood, MA, led the team in several individual statistical categories in 1998-99, including scoring (17.1 ppg), rebounding (6.2 rpg), and free-throw percentage (.757).
Dixon's Scoring Ranks High Alison Dixon is currently the highest-scoring B.U. player after two seasons of play... Dixon has 819 points in 54 career games... Dixon and Jill Sosnak 95 (791 points in 52 games) are the only two Terriers to score more than 700 points in their first two seasons.... Dixon has scored 20 or more points in 29-of-54 career games for the Terriers... Entering the 1999-2000 season, Dixon ranks 18th on the B.U. career scoring list.
Twenty Something Alison Dixon scored 20 or more points in a game 11 times in 1998-99, including a career-high 30 points vs. Dartmouth on November 23... In December, Dixon had a string of five straight 20-point games, tying a B.U. women's record... Debbie Miller 81 also had five straight 20-point efforts in 1979-80.
Dufault Delivers One of the team's most versatile players, Dia Dufault led B.U. in rebounding nine times as a freshman in 1998-99, second only to Alison Dixon's 10... Dufault appeared in all 27 games, starting 13... She finished third on the team in scoring (6.7 ppg) and was second in both rebounding (4.0 rpg) and three-point field goals (16)... Dufault's best game in 1998-99 came in a win over Marist on November 30 when she recorded season highs in points (25) and rebounds (10).
Tulley Time Jen Tulley showed signs of brilliance as a freshman in 1998-99... An extremely talented scorer, Tulley averaged 4.9 points and 3.7 rebounds in her first collegiate season... Tulley's best game (18 points, 7 rebounds - both season highs) came on January 16 vs. Drexel... Tulley appeared in all 27 games, recording four double-figure scoring efforts and eight game with five or more rebounds.
Three Point Accuracy In two preseason games the Terriers shot 61 % from three-point range (11-of-18)... Five Terriers connected from beyond the arc... Leading the way was freshman Alison Argentieri, who was 3-of-3 and sophomore guard Annie Tomasini, who connected on 4-of-7 attempts.
1999-2000 Schedule The Terriers will embark on a challenging schedule in 1999-2000... Including its always-competitive 18-game America East slate, B.U. will play several difficult non-conference contests... The Margaret McKeon era will commence on November 20 with a home game against Colgate... Road games at Ohio State, Harvard, and Wagner as well as participation in in-season tournaments at Fresno State (Nov. 27-28) and Davidson (Dec. 4-5) will test the Terriers in the early season.
