Colgate Recap Boston University 78, Colgate 58 November 20, 1999 BOSTON, MA- Sophomore guard Dia Dufault (Malone, NY) tied a career-high with 25 points and junior forward Alison Dixon (Norwood, MA) added 24 points and 10 rebounds as Boston University downed Colgate, 78-58, in the season opener for both teams before 543 on The Roof Saturday afternoon... The win was B.U.'s first season-opening win since 1996-97... The Terriers (1-0) jumped out to an early 9-4 lead and held the lead until Colgate (0-1) tied the game, 18-18, with 10:21 to play in the first half... The Red Raiders held the lead until Boston University sophomore guard Jen Tulley (Old Orchard Beach, ME) connected on a jumper to tie the game at 28-28 with 6:08 remaining in the first half... B.U. went ahead, 31-28, on a three-point field goal from junior guard Pilar Prassas (Haddonfield, NJ) that sparked a 7-0 run... Colgate managed to go on a 9-2 run to close out the half and go into halftime tied at 37-37... Freshman guard Alison Argentieri (Hornell, NY) attempted a half-court shot that hit the front of the rim as the buzzer sounded... In the second half, the lead changed hands three times, before the Terriers pulled away... With Colgate leading 50-49 with 13:46 to play in regulation, B.U. went on a 17-2 run to take a commanding 66-52 lead with 7:56 to play. The run was highlighted by nine points from Dufault and four from freshman forward Rachel Werner (Glendale, Arizona)... The Red Raiders, who shot 33 % in the second half (9-of-27), managed just two field goals in the final 11 minutes... The Terriers closed out the game with a 10-2 run, and had its biggest lead at 78-57 with 1:33 to play... B.U. outscored Colgate, 41-21, in the second half and shot 53 % (18-of-34) in the final 20 minutes... The Terriers will look for its second win of the season, on Tuesday, November 23 at 6 p.m., when they travel to Cambridge to play local rival Harvard at Lavietes Pavilion.

Head Coach Margaret McKeon Hired on April 26, 1999, 31-year old Margaret McKeon is the fifth head coach in the history of the Boston University women's basketball program... A former standout point guard at St. John's University, McKeon brings a history of coaching success to the Terrier program... McKeon has served as an assistant coach at Arizona State (1991-93), the University of Houston (1993-95), and most recently, George Washington University (1995-99)... In four years at GW, McKeon helped the Colonials to three Atlantic-10 regular-season championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight finish in 1997 and a final number 10 ranking in the CNN/USA TODAY poll.
Terrier Dog Bites The Terriers return five of their top seven scorers and four of their top five rebounder leaders in 1999-2000... Junior forward Alison Dixon, the team's top scorer (17.3 ppg) and rebounder (6.2 rpg) in 1998-99, leads the 11 returning letterwinners... Overall, B.U. returns 61.8 percent (1,058-of-1711) of its points and 74.8 percent (668-of-883) of its rebounding totals from a season ago... Despite Dixon being the lone returning starter, four other Terriers averaged at least 13 minutes a game last season.

New Staff in Place McKeon has hired three assistants on her coaching staff - Jerry McLaughlin (Flagler 77) - Gabrielle Butler (Franklin & Marshall 85) and Cindy Blodgett (Maine 98)... A former head coach at Siena and Alaska-Anchorage, McLaughlin has also coached at Temple, New Mexico State, and Kentucky... Butler comes to B.U. after spending eight seasons as an assistant coach -the last four with Margaret McKeon - at George Washington University... Blodgett, who plays for the Sacramento Monarchs of the WNBA, led Maine to four America East conference titles and four straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament...At Maine, Blodgett set 18 University of Maine records including scoring with 3005 points in 118 games for an average of 25.5 ppg... The point total currently ranks as the fifth-highest career total in NCAA Division I history.
Alison Dixon Earns America East All-Conference Honors Forward Alison Dixon earned 1999 America East Third Team All-Conference honors as voted by the league's 10 head coaches... Dixon, who hails from Norwood, MA, led the team in several individual statistical categories in 1998-99, including scoring (17.1 ppg), rebounding (6.2 rpg), and free-throw percentage (.757).
Dixon's Scoring Ranks High Alison Dixon is currently the highest-scoring B.U. player after two seasons of play... Dixon has 819 points in 54 career games... Dixon and Jill Sosnak (95) (791 points in 52 games) are the only two Terriers to score more than 700 points in their first two seasons.... Dixon has scored 20 or more points in 29-of-54 career games for the Terriers... Entering the 1999-2000 season, Dixon ranks 18th on the B.U. career scoring list.
Twenty Something In the first game of the season, junior forwrd Alison Dixon picked up where she left off last season with a 24 point, 10 rebound effort vs. Colgate on November 20.... Last season, Dixon scored 20 or more points in a game 11 times, including a career-high 30 points vs. Dartmouth on November 23... In December, Dixon had a string of five straight 20-point games, tying a B.U. women's record... Debbie Miller (81) also had five straight 20-point efforts in 1979-80.
Dufault Delivers Sophomore guard Dia Dufault equaled a career-high with 25 points in the Terriers' 78-58 season-opening win over Colgate on Saturday... Last season, Dufault led B.U. in rebounding nine times , second only to Alison Dixon's 10... Dufault appeared in all 27 games, starting 13... She finished third on the team in scoring (6.7 ppg) and was second in both rebounding (4.0 rpg) and three-point field goals (16)... Dufault's best game in 1998-99 came in a win over Marist on November 30 when she recorded season highs in points (25) and rebounds (10).
Terriers Ink Five Recruits in Early Signing Period Boston University women's basketball coach Margaret McKeon has annouced that five players - forward Ashley Carr (Milwaukee, WI), guard Courtney Jones (Lafayette Hill, PA), guard Lashaunda Mitchell (Oyster Bay, NY), forward Marisa Moseley (Springfield, MA) and guard Katie Terhune (Port Murray, NJ) - signed national letters on intent during the early signing period from November 10 to November 17... Carr, a forward/center from Divine Savior Holy Angels, has led her team to a 32-12 record over the last two years, with two Greater Metro Conference Championships an two trips to the Wisconsin State Tournament... Jones, a 5-8 point guard from Mount Saint Joseph Academy, averaged 14.8 ppg, 4.0 apg, 4.0 spg and 3.0 rpg last season. She is also an outstanding student with a 3.923 grade point average... Mitchell, a guard from St. Dominic High School, led her squad to the 1998 New York State Class B Catholic Championship with a 20-7 record. She was a Newsday All-Long Island Second Team selection... Moseley, a forward from Longmeadow H.S., averaged 14.0 ppg and 8.9 rpg last season, as she led Longmeadow to the Western Massachusetts semifinals...Terhune, a 5-11 guard from Warren Hills H.S. (N.J.), averaged 20.5 ppg and 7.9 rpg last season... She was a First Team All-Conferecne, All-Area, All-West Jersey, and All-County selection last season and was only the second female to score over 1000 career points at Warren Hills during her junior season.
