WASHINGTON, DC (Nov. 24) - The Boston University mens basketball team maintained its perfect record, downing Quinnipiac University, 66-60 in the first round of the Red Auerbach Colonial Classic on Friday evening. The Terriers advance to face host George Washington University, which defeated Howard, 119-80, in the championship game on November 25 at 8 p.m.
Sophomore guard Matt Turner (West Haven, CT) came off the bench to lead four B.U. players in double figures with 15 points and three assists. Sophomore forward Paul Seymour (Liverpool, NY) scored 14 points, junior co-captain Stijn Dhondt (Borem, Belgium) scored 12 and freshman forward Jason Grochowalski (Shrewsbury, MA) added 10 points to round out the Terriers in double digits.
It is the first time the Terriers have started the season 3-0 since 1985-86. That season, the team qualified for its second NIT appearance. Wolff is just five victories away from the school mark of 101 held by Mike Jarvis.
B.U. came out firing from long range in the opening half, hitting 5-of-17 shots from beyond the arc in taking a 31-30 lead at the break. The Terriers only shot 33 percent, 12-for-36, in the first half, but their fortunes would change after halftime.
The Terriers shot 46 percent, 11-for-24, after the break, while limiting the Braves to just 28 percent shooting from the field (8-for-29) in the second half. B.U. hit 12-of-14 free throws in the second half (86 percent).
Quinnipiacs Collin Charles led all scorers with 18 points, including 8-for-8 from the line. The Braves are 0-2.
