Boston University/Providence Series Notes Providence leads the all-time series, 14-4... The Friars won the last meeting, 80-74, on December 23, 1995... The series dates back to the 1925-26 season... The Terriers' last win against Providence was a 64-48 victory on March 5, 1959.
Terriers Against Non-Conference Foes In head coach Dennis Wolff's five-plus seasons, the Terriers are 24-25 against non-conference opponents...This season, B.U. is 0-3 against non-conference opponents... Last season, B.U. was 4-4 in non-conference games... The Terriers' last win against a non-conference opponent came on December 29, 1998, an 80-58 decision over Canisius in the consolation game of the Bobcat Classic at Montana State.
Wolff Against the Big East Head coach Dennis Wolff is 0-3 against teams from the Big East Conference.
Recapping James Madison Monday, November 22, 1999 Freshman guard Paul Seymour came off the bench to score a career-high 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 6-of-9 from three-point land, but James Madison's Jamar Perry led five Dukes in double figures as JMU downed B.U. 91-79 in overtime... The Terriers opened up a close first half, as freshmen Seymour and Matt Turner combined to hit three consecutive three-point field goals to stake the Terriers to a 38-30 lead with 5:48 left in the half... JMU went on a 9-4 run to end the half with B.U. leading 42-39... Seymour connected on 4-of-5 three-pointers in the first half and the Terriers shot 55.6 % from the floor (15-of-27) in the first 20 minutes... To open the second half, JMU outscored the Terriers, 18-7, to open its biggest lead at 56-49 with 13:11 to play... A layup by Jean Avebe, a jumper by Turner and a three-pointer by Costello tied the game at 56-56 with 10:02 left... In the final 10 minutes of regulation, the lead changed hands five times and the game was tied 10 times...Trailing, 71-70, with 1:25 to play, sophomore forward Ignacio Rodriguez connected on two free throws to give B.U. a 72-71 lead...With :34 seconds remaining, JMU's Dwayne Braxton fouled sophomore guard Dereck Franklin... Franklin converted both charity shots to give the Terriers a 74-71 lead...Eight seconds later, JMU's Mickey Dennis nailed a three-pointer to send the game into overtime... In the extra session, the Terriers never got on track, being outscored 17-5 en route to the 91-79 loss... B.U. was outrebounded, 44-28... The 17 points allowed in overtime ties the most given up by a B.U. team. Last January 22 against Vermont, the Catamounts also scored 17 points.
Which Direction Will The 1999-00 Terriers Go Boston University is 0-3 to open the start of the season for the second consecutive season and third time in the Dennis Wolff era... Last season the Terriers finished 9-18, but in 1995-96, B.U. rebounded from a slow start to finish 18-11... The only other time, B.U. suffered an 0-3 start in the modern era was in 1982-83, when a Rick Pitino-led Terrier squad finished 21-10 and earned an NCAA berth... B.U. has not started the season 0-4 since the 1975-76 season.
Youngest Terrier Squad in School History With only two upperclassmen on its 12-man roster, this year's Boston University team is the youngest in school history. Every previous Boston University team has fielded at least four upperclassmen, while no Terrier club has featured more than nine underclassmen. Below is a look at some of the youngest squads to wear the Scarlet and White:

Mike Jarvis, currently coaching at St. John's University, and John Burke, who succeeded Zunic from 1959-66 each led the Terriers in 152 games... Jarvis is the program's all-time winningest coach with 101 victories from 1985-90.
Reviewing 1998-99 Boston University completed the 1998-99 season with a disappointing 9-18 record... The Terriers, who finished 5-13 in league play, lost to Towson, 71-58, in the first round of the America East Championships... It was the first non-winning season since 1994-95, and just the second campaign in the 1990s that the squad did not reach double figures in victories.
Quoting Wolff on 1998-99 It was definitely a disappointing year for us. We were disjointed and never established a sense of character. However, our young players were able to gain some experience and learn from it.
Quoting Wolff on 1999-2000 We will be young and raw, but I feel we will improve as the season progresses. The freshmen class is talented, but will have to grow up quickly.
Costello is Fourth on B.U. Career Three-Point List With 142 three-pointers, senior Mike Costello ranks fourth on the B.U. career three-point list. In 1998-99, Costello connected on a team-high 48 three-pointers, including eight games with three or more... Costello finished ninth in America East with a 36.5 % success rate from three-point land.

A four-time Rookie of the Week honoree, Franklin was one of just seven players in the 20-year history of the America East Conference, including former B.U. star Tunji Awojobi 97, to capture the weekly award four or more times in a season.
Three-Point Field Goal Streak at 96 B.U. currently has a 96-game three-point field goal streak... The last time the Terriers were held scoreless from beyond the three-point arc was Feb. 10, 1996, when they were 0-for-10 in a loss at Vermont... B.U. has hit three-pointers in 148-of-150 games in the Dennis Wolff era.

Playing the Best Boston University annually plays a challenging non-conference schedule Last season, the Terriers played three teams that reached the 1999 NCAA Tournament (UNC Charlotte, Miami (Ohio), and Delaware) as well as two that played in the postseason N.I.T. (Alabama and Colorado) In 1999-2000, B.U. will compete in two in-season tournaments - in November at Florida International and in late December in 1999 N.I.T. Champion California's holiday tournament In addition, the Terriers will renew their long-time rivalries against New England neighbors Massachusetts and Providence.
Joe Tompkins Tribute This season the Boston University men's basketball team will be wearing black arm bands in tribute to longtime B.U. employee and Terrier supporter Joe Tompkins... Joe died suddenly at work on Tuesday, July 13, 1999... He worked as a custodian at B.U. for 30-plus years and loved the interaction with the coaching staff and the student-athletes.
