BOSTON - The Boston University women's basketball program received its third and final commitment for the 1999-00 season when 6-foot 2 inch forward Rachel Werner (Glendale, AZ) signed a national letter-of-intent.
Werner joins guard Alison Argentieri (Hornell, NY) and forward Jenny Marland (Oakton, VA), who both signed national letters-of-intent during the fall signing period that ran from November 11-18, 1998.
Werner earned Arizona Republic Second Team All-State honors after averaging 15 points and 12 rebounds for head coach Jim Graham at Cactus High School. Werner is also a member of the Arizona Elite 18-under AAU squad.
"Rachel is very athletic player with good quickness and speed," said recently retired B.U. head coach Christine Basile. "She has a fine work ethic, and a great deal of potential to improve and succeed at the Division I level."
Basile announced her retirement on March 30 after 16 seasons and a 204-237 career record. A successor has not yet been named.
