Women's Crew Opens Against New Hampshire And UMass
April 6, 1999 | Women's Rowing
The Boston University women's heavyweight crews opened their seasons with two wins and a heartbreaking loss. Rowing under very good condtions in flat water, the freshmen and second varsity outdistanced both UMass and New Hampshire.
The novice were timed in 6:07, 13 second better than UMass (6:20) and 15 seconds faster than New Hampshire (6:22). Then, in the second varsity race, B.U. was timed in 6:13, just two seconds faster than UMass (6:15) and almost 18 seconds faster than UNH (6:30.7). However, the first varsity race, with a tail wind that had picked up for their race, ended with the Terriers just a few seats shy of UMass, as the margin of victory was just four-tenths of a second.
UMass was timed in 5:51.2, while the Terriers were clocked in 5:51.6. The University of Kansas was nine seconds behind in 6:00.8.
