Terriers Name Jerry McLaughlin Assistant Women's Basketball Coach
June 2, 1999 | Women's Basketball
BOSTON -- Jerry McLaughlin has been named an assistant coach on the Boston University women's basketball staff, head coach Margaret McKeon announced today.
It is the first staff hire for McKeon, who was named as Boston University's fifth head women's basketball coach on April 26 after serving four years as an associate head coach at George Washington University.
Jerry is a great addition to our staff, McKeon said. His recruiting background and extensive knowledge of the game made him an easy hire.
Formerly the head women's basketball coach at the University of Alaska-Anchorage (1994-97) and Siena (1985-87), McLaughlin served 11 seasons as an assistant at Temple (1982-85), New Mexico State (1987-89), and Kentucky (1989-94). At New Mexico State, McLaughlin worked under Joe McKeown, the current George Washington head coach and former McKeon mentor.
At B.U., McLaughlin will assume recruiting responsibilities, handle various on-the-court teaching with the Terrier post players, and will coordinate team travel.
A native of Springfield, PA, McLaughlin earned a B.A. in elementary education in 1977 from Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL . He was also a four-year member of the Flagler men's basketball program. After graduation, McLaughlin assumed the head coaching duties at Fife H.S. in Tacoma, WA and earned his fifth-year teaching degree from the University of Washington in 1981.
