Women's Basketball Undefeated in Exhibition

BOSTON, MA (November 9) -- Senior forward Alison Dixon scored a game-high 20 points on 9-for-17 shooting to lead the Boston University women's basketball team to a 75-68 win over the Netherlands National Team in an exhibition match at "The Roof" on Thursday.
With the win, B.U. ends it's exhibition schedule with a 2-0 record after downing the New York Gazelles, 95- on November 1.
The Terriers jumped out to a quick 9-3 lead in the opening minutes, but found themselves trailing, 37-33 at the half. B.U. shot 40.7% (11-for-27) in the opening half and were a perfect 10-for-10 from the line.
B.U. took the lead for the first time in the second half when sophomore forward Rachel Werner hit a three-pointer to put the Terriers up, 42-41 three minutes in. The Terriers stretched the lead to five before the Netherlands battled back to take a 49-47 lead on a layup by Laura Kooy with 13:32 left.
The Netherlands held the lead for much of the half until Werner, who had 13 points, hit a jumper to put B.U. up for good, 69-68 with 1:23 left in the game. B.U. scored the final five points of the game as the Netherlands resorted to fouling the Terriers.
B.U. shot 52 percent in the second half, on 12-for-23 shooting. Busy at the line, the Terriers were 17-for-27 in the second half, a 63 percent efficiency. For the game, the Terriers shot 46 percent from the field (23-for-50) and a solid 73 percent from the line (27-for-37).
B.U. was outrebounded 37-33, but only committed 18 turnovers to the Netherlands' 24.
Freshman Katie Terhune had another solid game for the Terriers, netting 17 points. Freshman Lashaunda Mitchell added six points and a team-high three steals.
The Terriers will kick off the 2000-2001 campaign hosting the Boston University Women's Basketball Invitational against Yale at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 18 on "The Roof."
