Terriers Keeping It Close Despite her team's 7-18 record this season, first-year head coach Margaret McKeon has her team playing competitive basketball... The Terriers are 2-5 in games decided by four points or less this season, including two games this month - one by four points (57-53 versus Delaware on February 10th), and one by two points, at Hofstra on January 28th (50-48).

Scouting the Wildcats UNH, under the direction of head coach Sue Johnson, comes into this afternoon's game with a 12-13 record and a 7-9 mark in the America East... The Wildcats were on a two game win streak, having defeated Hofstra 52-37 on the 20th and Drexel, 56-52 on the 18th, before dropping a 56-52 decision to Northeastern on Thursday...Senior center Orsi Farkas paced the Wildcats, netting 16 points on 7-of-16 shooting and pulling down 11 rebounds, including five offensive boards in her 38 minutes of play...In Sunday's win, Farkas scored 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting. She also added nine rebounds and a steal...Junior forward Kelly Donohue added 14 points and seven rebounds in Thursday's loss...In conference games, Farkas lead the Wildcats, averaging 15.6 ppg and 8.6 rpg... Farkas is also averaging 1.6 steals per game...Sophomore forward Aubrey Danen is averaging 10 points and nine rebounds per game.

Last Meeting With New Hampshire - December 9, 1999 DURHAM, NH -Sophomore Jen Tulley scored a career-high 24 points, 18 of which came in the second half, to lead B.U. to a 61-59 overtime win over host University of New Hampshire... The victory ended a four-game losing streak for the Terriers, who are now 3-4 on the season. More importantly, though, it was their first league win of the year for B.U... Tulley, who was held to just six points in the first half, connected on 7-of-8 from the field in the second half, including 3-of-5 from three-point range... It would have all been for naught though had Dia Dufault and Alison Dixon not made their overtime baskets or Alison Argentieri not converted on a key free throw with 10.5 seconds to play in OT... The Terriers also played excellent defense not just in overtime but througout the game. They held the Wildcats to just 19-of-54 from the field (35.2 percent) for the game. UNH's top player, Orsi Farkas, connected on just 4-of-12 from the floor... The Terriers trailed by just a point at the half, 23-22, despite shooting 33.3 percent from the field. The Wildcats had an even poorer shooting performance, as they converted on just 25.9 percent of their shots... New Hampshire jumped to a 5-0 lead before the Terriers scored six unanswered points to lead 6-5, following a Dixon put back with 13:16 to play in the half... From then on, neither team led by more than four points, while the score was tied five times in the final 7:14 of the half... Most of the second half belonged to the Terriers in general and to Tulley in particular... Her scoring exploits helped the Terriers open a 12-point lead, 53-41, with 6:19 to play in regulation... New Hampshire clawed back and tied the game, 56-56, on a layup by Anna Matthias with just 14.3 seconds to play in the game... The key play in the overtime was the tap... Tulley was one of just four Terriers who figured in the point total. Dixon, who also had a team-high 16 rebounds and 5 steals, scored 19 points, while Dufault had 12 points. Argentieri was the only other Terrier to score and she had 6 points.

Tulley Returns To Action With 12:45 remaining in the first half versus Maine on Thursday night, sophomore guard Jen Tulley made her first appearance since sustaining a foot injury at Ohio State on December 14th.. Tulley had three points, five rebounds, two assists, and a steal in the game.

Against Drexel on January 2nd, Dixon became the second fastest Terrier to reach the 1,000-point plateau as she reached the milestone in her 65th career game... B.U.'s all-time scoring leader, Debbie Miller (81), reached 1,000 points in 54 games.

Dixon Reaches 1,000-Point, 500-Rebound Club At Hartford Alison Dixon surpassed the 1,000-point plateau in early January and, she became the eighth Terrier to accumulate 1,000 points and 500 career rebounds when she collected seven rebounds at Hartford on February 17th... Currently, Dixon has 1,250 career points and 517 career rebounds... Julie Schmidt (95) was the last to achieve the feat, and she did it in her senior year.

Twenty Something For The 36th Time With 25 points vs. Northeastern on February 5th, Alison Dixon has now scored 20 or more points seven times this season... She has reached 20 or more points in 36-of-77 career games for the Terriers.... Last season, Dixon scored 20 or more points in a game 11 times, including a career-high 30 points vs. Dartmouth on November 23rd... Last December, Dixon had a string of five straight 20-point games, tying a B.U. women's record... Debbie Miller (81) also had five straight 20-point efforts in 1979-80.

Dixon In The Terrier Record Books Alison Dixon has already made news this season with her scoring exploits, and is approaching other B.U. career leader records... She currently has 300 free throw attempts, and recently passed Julie Schmidt (95), who was fifth the Terriers' free throws attempted list with 278... Dixon has 217 made free throws, to move past Pam Trainor ('84), into fourth place on the all-time list. Trainor had 215 made free throws.... Dixon just passed Jill Sosnak ('95) into fourth place on the all-time field goals made list with 514... Her current 49.2 field goal percentage (514-of-1044) ranks third all-time, and her current 17.5 ppg average ranks fourth for the highest scoring average in a season.

Terriers Among America East Statistical Leaders Junior forward Alison Dixon is second in the conference in field goal percentage (53.8 percent), fourth in the conference in scoring (17.5 ppg), sixth in free throw percentage (70.3 percent), and 10th in rebounding (7.5 rpg)... Sophomore guard Dia Dufault is ninth in scoring averaging 12.3 ppg... Freshman point guard Alison Argentieri is seventh in assists per game at 3.7 apg... As a team, B.U. is second in the conference in free throw percentage connecting on 70.2 percent of its attempts, fourth in field goal percentage defense holding opponents to a 41.6 field goal percentage, and fifth in three-point field goal percentage converting 27.9 percent of its attempts.

Terriers Eclipse Win Total From Last Season... Two Better Than A Year Ago With its 66-65 win over Northeastern on February 5th, B.U. is two wins ahead of last season's win total of five... B.U. eclipsed its win total of last season with a 76-64 win at Drexel on Sunday, January 30th... B.U. was 5-22 a year ago... On January 18th, the Terriers equaled its win total of a year ago with a 68-55 win over Albany... Last season, it took the Terriers 25 games to reach five wins.

Terriers On The Defensive On January 18th, in a 68-55 win over Albany, the Terriers held the Great Danes to just 29.7 percent shooting from the field (19-of-64)... It marked the first time that B.U. had held an opponent under 30 percent shooting in a game since November 22, 1997 against Marist... B.U. defeated the Red Foxes, 76-42, as Marist shot 16-of-57 for 28.1 percent from the field.

Balanced Offense Also in the win over Albany, four Terriers reached double-digits for the second time this season and the first time since December 29th at Wagner... Alison Dixon led the attack with a game-high 20 points, followed by Dia Dufault's 16 pts, Alison Argentieri with 14 pts, and Anne Nelson with 12 pts... In the win at Wagner, Dufault had 24 pts, Dixon added 22 pts, Annie Tomasini had a career-high 18 pts, and Argentieri had 10 pts.

Steady Improvement For Dufault Sophomore guard Dia Dufault has reached a career-high for points and rebounds in a season with 299 points and 165 rebounds ... Last season in 27 games, Dufault scored 183 points and grabbed 101 boards... With 472 career points in 52 games, Dufault has a 9.0 ppg career average... In her last 10 games, Dufault is averaging 11.3 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 3.2 apg, and 2.1 spg.

Argentieri On Pace To Become Third Freshman To Start All Games Freshman point guard Alison Argentieri has started all 25 games for the Terriers this season, and is on pace to become the first freshman to start every game since Julie Schmidt started all 28 games during the 1991-92 season... Schmidt had the most starts with 28, followed by Jill Sosnak, who started all 27 in 1990-91, Andrea Ashuck, who started 25-of-28 games in 1985-86, and Cheryl Johnson, who started 23-of-28 games back in 1984-85... Schmidt and Sosnak are the only freshmen to start every game during their first season.

Solid Rookie Season Argentieri leads the Terriers in assists with 91 for a 3.6 apg average... With two assists on Thursday night, Argentieri tied Cheryl Johnson ('88) for the most assists in a season by a freshman with 91... Her 32 three-point field goals leads the Terriers and is the 11th highest single-season total in team history... In fact, the 32 three-pointers and her 36.4 three-point field goal percentage are the most and highest ever by a B.U. freshman... Kelly Jo Gallagher ('98) had 25 three-pointers during her freshman season in 1994-95... On December 29th at Wagner, the 5-9 point guard dished out a career-high 11 assists in the Terriers' 83-64 win... Her 11 assists were the most by a Terrier since Cara Millett (99) handed out 12 assists at Maine on February 12, 1998.

Freshman Has Hot Hand In her last 10 games, freshman guard Alison Argentieri is averaging 8.0 ppg, and shooting 41.4 percent (17-of-41) from three-point territory, and 86.1 percent from the free throw line... At Harvard, on November 23rd, Argentieri scored a career-high 21 points in leading B.U. to a 75-67 victory over the Crimson... Argentieri was 6-of-8 from the floor, 4-of-5 from three-point land, and 5-of-6 from the free throw line in the final 40 seconds.

Captain Leadership Sophomore co-captain Anne Nelson is shooting 46.7 percent (36-of-77) from the field, and averaging 7.8 ppg and 5.4 rpg over her last 11 games... The 6-2 forward/center tied a career-high in points with 12 vs. Albany on January 18th, and set a career best for rebounds with 11 at Hofstra on January 28th... Nelson also added career highs in blocked shots with three in back-to-back games vs. Hartford on January 22nd, and at Hofstra on January 28th... Nelson is averaging 5.4 ppg, and 4.2 rpg this season... She leads the team in free-throw accuracy at 86.2 percent (25-of-29).

Verde Nets Career-High Sophomore guard Pilar Verde scored a career high 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting, inclduing three three-point field goals, vs. Northeastern on February 5th... The 5-7 guard from Madrid, Spain joined the team just after the new year... In 14 games, she is averaging 5.8 ppg and 1.4 rpg... In her last five games, Verde is averaging 9.4 ppg and 2.8 apg.

Terriers 4-0 When Scoring 70 or More Points B.U. is 4-0 this season when scoring 70 or more points in a game... At Drexel on January 30th, the Terriers scored 76 points in a 76-64 win, and at Wagner on December 29th the Terriers scored a season-high 83 points in an 83-64 win... B.U. opened the season with back-to-back wins vs. Colgate on November 20th, 78-58 , and at Harvard on November 23rd, a 75-67 decision.

Terriers Ink Five Recruits in Early Signing Period Boston University women's basketball coach Margaret McKeon has annouced that five players - forward Ashley Carr (Milwaukee, WI), guard Courtney Jones (Lafayette Hill, PA), guard Lashaunda Mitchell (Oyster Bay, NY), forward Marisa Moseley (Springfield, MA) and guard Katie Terhune (Port Murray, NJ) - signed national letters on intent during the early signing period from November 10 to November 17... Carr, a forward/center from Divine Savior Holy Angels, has led her team to a 32-12 record over the last two years, with two Greater Metro Conference Championships an two trips to the Wisconsin State Tournament... Jones, a 5-8 point guard from Mount Saint Joseph Academy, averaged 14.8 ppg, 4.0 apg, 4.0 spg and 3.0 rpg last season. She is also an outstanding student with a 3.923 grade point average... Mitchell, a guard from St. Dominic High School, led her squad to the 1998 New York State Class B Catholic Championship with a 20-7 record. She was a Newsday All-Long Island Second Team selection... Moseley, a forward from Longmeadow H.S., averaged 14.0 ppg and 8.9 rpg last season, as she led Longmeadow to the Western Massachusetts semifinals...Terhune, a 5-11 guard from Warren Hills H.S. (N.J.), averaged 20.5 ppg and 7.9 rpg last season... She was a First Team All-Conference, All-Area, All-West Jersey, and All-County selection last season and was only the second female to score over 1,000 career points at Warren Hills during her junior season.

Head Coach Margaret McKeon Hired on April 26, 1999, 31-year old Margaret McKeon is the fifth head coach in the history of the Boston University women's basketball program... A former standout point guard at St. John's University, McKeon brings a history of coaching success to the Terrier program... McKeon has served as an assistant coach at Arizona State (1991-93), the University of Houston (1993-95), and most recently, George Washington University (1995-99)... In four years at GW, McKeon helped the Colonials to three Atlantic 10 regular-season championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight finish in 1997 and a final number 10 ranking in the CNN/USA TODAY poll.

New Staff in Place McKeon's three assistants are - Gabrielle Butler (Franklin & Marshall 1985) - Jerry McLaughlin (Flagler 1977) - and Cindy Blodgett (Maine 1998)... Butler comes to B.U. after spending eight seasons as an assistant coach - the last four with Margaret McKeon - at George Washington University... A former head coach at Siena and Alaska-Anchorage, McLaughlin has also coached at Temple, New Mexico State, and Kentucky... Blodgett, who plays for the Sacramento Monarchs of the WNBA, led Maine to four America East conference titles and four straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament...At Maine, Blodgett set 18 University of Maine records including scoring with 3005 points in 118 games for an average of 25.5 ppg... The point total currently ranks as the fifth-highest career total in NCAA Division I history.

Joe Tompkins Tribute A long-time Boston University employee, Joe Tompkins was a great friend of all Boston University athletes, and a special friend the Boston University basketball... This season, the Boston University women's basketball team is wearing black bands on their uniform in tribute... Joe died suddenly at work on Tuesday, July 13, 1999.
