BOSTON, MA - Boston University forward Jason Grochowalski earned America East Spalding Rookie of the Week honors for the week ending February 25. The freshman averaged 14.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, leading the Terriers to a perfect 3-0 record last week.
The Shrewsbury, Mass., native had a team-high 19 points and eight rebounds in a 60-51 win over Holy Cross on February 20. He added 11 points and three rebounds in B. U.'s 77-52 victory over New Hampshire on February 23, and tallied 14 points and six rebounds against Maine on February 25. A red-shirt freshman who sat out last season with a shoulder injury, Grochowalski currently leads the team in scoring at 12.6 points per game and is fifth in rebounding at 5.6 boards per game. He has scored in double-figures in each of the Terriers' last four games, including a 26-point effort against Vermont on February 17.
Grochowalski, who has made 77-of-89 free throws for an 86.5 percent, leads America East in free throw shooting, and is among the NCAA leaders in the category.
It is the second Rookie of the Week nod for Grochowalski, who also captured the honor for the week ending January 14, after averaging 20 points in two games.
Boston University next plays in the quarterfinal round of the America East Tournament at Delaware's Bob Carpenter Center on Saturday, March 3. The fifth-seeded Terriers take on fourth-seeded Maine in a 2:30 p.m. game.
