Men's Crew Bows To Dartmouth In Bill Cup
April 22, 2000 | Men's Rowing
The Terriers' men's varsity heavyweight crew, hoping to notch its second straight win of the spring season, came up short at Dartmouth on April 22 as it lost to the Big Green in the featured race of the Bill Cup. Rutgers, which finished third, was also entered in the regatta.
"The varsity rowed a very flat race after 600 meters," said Terrier head coach Rodney Pratt, whose boat beat Northeastern in the Arlett Cup last Saturday (April 15th).
B.U.'s record is now 1-3 in the spring season.
"At 600 meters, we made a move, but it didn't make an impression on Dartmouth," said the coach.
The Big Green was timed in 5:27.5 over the 2000-meter course, while B.U. had a 5:34.3. Rutgers was third in 5:37.3.
B.U. won the second varsity race by four seconds over Dartmouth, 5:34.4 to 5:38.4. Again, Rutgers was third in 5:43.2.
"Hats off to the jayvees," said Pratt. "They rowed very well. The freshmen also rowed a very competitive race," said Pratt. "I think they came of age today."
The frosh lost to Rutgers by just over a second, 5:36.5 to 5:37.7. Dartmouth was third in 5:40.7.
"We had hoped to come home with the Bill Cup but it was not to be," said Pratt. "Now, we move on for next week's race against Columbia."
