Women Swim Well But Lose To Eagles

Sophomore Stacey Gallacher (Horseheads, NY) and junior Laurie Green (St. Johns, Newfoundland) each won two events, but it was not enough as the Terrier women's swimming and diving team lost to Boston College, 177-121, on Tuesday (January 22nd).
"Our women swam very well," said head coach Reagh Wetmore. "We had five of our top swimmers out of action, two of whom were having operations. Plus, we had just had a big conference meet on Sunday (January 20th)."
The coach was referring to the Terriers' impressive 179-115 win at Vermont just two days earlier. Both Gallacher and Green led the way for the Terriers as Gallacher won both the one- and three-meter dives, while Green won the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Gallacher scored 261.37 points in the one-meter and 252.07 in winning the three-meter event. In the meantime, Green was clocked in 1:07.52 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:25.85 in the 200.
Other individual winners were freshman Lauren Foster (Lake Quivira, KS), who had a time of 1:55.87 to win the 200 freestyle, while junior Karissa Lopez (Santa Fe, NM) came in first in the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:05.82.
Other Terriers in action were - Senior Akiko Abe (Palos Verdes, CA) finished 5th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:05.62 and in the 50 freestyle in :28.55 seconds. - Freshman Hilary Habershaw (Hingham, MA) was the anchor in the 400 freestyle relay that came in second with a time of 3:26.06. She also swam in the 100 backstroke in 1:07.22 which placed 5th and in the 50 freestyle with a time of :27.27 seconds to place 4th. - Freshman Regina Kearney (Staten Island, NY) placed 5th in the 200 breaststroke in 2:42.6 and was 3rd in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:15.67. - Freshman Courtlandt McKinlay (Cheshire, CT) had a time of 2:13.92 in the 200 backstroke, which was good for 2nd place. She also competed in the 100 backstroke and finished 3rd with a time of 1:02.70. - Freshman Emily Moreno (Oakland, NJ) came in 2nd place in the 500 freestyle in 5:10.13 and 3rd in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:42.76. - Senior Bridget Nord (Bloomington, IL) finished 3rd in both the 1- and 3- meter diving competitions with scores of 225.30 and 230.85, respectively. - Junior Ingrid Salazar (Simi Valley, CA) finished 2nd in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:37.81 and ended up 3rd in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:14.55. - Junior Melissa Scholnik (Scottsdale, AZ) finished 5th in both the 200 (2:26.89) and 100 (1:08.84) butterfly. - Sophomore Kristin Stratton (Aurora, CO) scored 232.50 in the 1-meter dive and 232.12 in the 3-meter as she was 2nd in both competitions. - Senior Abigail Wieck (East Greenwich, RI) finished 5th in both the 50 freestyle and 200 backstroke. Her time in the 50 was :28.55, while she was clocked in 2:28.22 in the backstroke.
