Lopez, Gallacher Win Two, But Terriers Bow To BC
January 25, 2001 | Women's Swimming & Diving

Sophomore Karissa Lopez (Santa Fe, NM) and freshman Stacey Gallacher (Horseheads, NY) each won two events but it was not enough as the Terrier women's swimming and diving team dropped a 187-112 decision to host Boston College on Tuesday night (Jan. 23).
The two underclassmen accounted for four of the six events B.U. won in the meet. In the meantime, the Eagles won 10 events.
The only other B.U. winners were freshman Kelli Sweeting (Sarasota, FL) and sophomore Laurie Green (St. John's, Newfoundland).
Lopez turned in outstanding performances en route to winning the 100 fly (:59.36) and 200 individual medley (2:13.34), while she finished second in the 200 fly. Her time of 2:07.51 was just two-tenths of a second behind BC's Lauren Keibler, who was clocked in 2:07.31.
Gallacher remained undefeated in dual meet competition in both the one-and three-meter dives. In the former, she finished with 261.00 points, while she had 257.25 points in the latter.
Sweeting led a 1-2 finish for the Terriers in the 200 backstroke. Her winning time was 2:10.09, while sophomore Margaret O'Neill (Chattanooga, TN) was second in 2:14.35.
Green topped the field in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:32.64.
"Boston College's depth really hurt us," said Terrier head coach Reagh Wetmore. "They had six swimmers in events whereas we had just two. Plus, their swimmers turned in some excellent times."
The Terriers will close out their regular-season on February 3rd when they travel to the University of Rhode Island.
