Terriers Lose To Delaware as Women's Hoop Season Ends

BURLINGTON, VT -- Christina Rible led a second-half charge as top-seeded Delaware held off an upset bid by #8 Boston University, 67-49, in the quarterfinal round of the 2001 National Life Group America East Women's Basketball Championships at UVM's Patrick Gym on Thursday afternoon.
The Terriers, who led 27-26 at the break, were looking to become the first-ever team to knock off the top seed in the quarterfinal round. But with B.U. leading 37-34 with 14:29 to play, Rible (13 second half points) and Danielle Leyfert (10 of her 13 after halftime) triggered the deciding 13-0 run over the next six minutes as the Blue Hens cruised to their 24th win of the season.
Cindy Johnson also scored 14 points on 7-for-11 from the floor as Delaware, who shot 59.3% (16-of-27) in the second half, advances to the semifinals for the second straight season and takes on #5 Hartford tomorrow (Friday) at 6 pm.
Katie Terhune scored 18 points and Dia Dufault added 12 for the Terriers who end their season at 10-19. Alison Dixon, second all-time in scoring at Boston University, scored 10 and finishs her stellar four-year career with 1,630 points.
