Women's Crew Sweeps George Washington, Georgetown

The Terrier women's crew overcame strong gusty winds and choppy water to row past George Washington to win the Playfair Cup in the morning and then defeat Georgetown in an afternoon regatta on the Potomac on Saturday (April 6th)
The two wins improved the Terriers' varsity heavyweight spring record to 4-1. In their season opener on March 30th, B.U. lost to host Syracuse but defeated Clemson.
"Let's just say that we survived the conditions," Terrier varsity coach Holly Hatton said after the heavyweight rowed to nearly a 10-second win over George Washington. B.U. was timed in 6:26.6, while GW rowed in 6:36.4.
"We could have rowed better," Hatton continued. "But, considering the conditions, I thought we did a good job."
Navy was also scheduled to row in the varsity event, but the Middies instead opted to row at the San Diego Classic.
In the morning racing, B.U. also won the second varsity race in 6:30.7. Navy did have a boat entered and finished second in 6:40.8, while George Washington was third in 6:53.0.
The Terriers made a sweep of the varsity events by winning the varsity four in 7:18.6 to Navy's 7:46.2. GW did not have a boat entered in this event.
Navy prevailed, however, in the novice racing where they won both the first and second novice races. In the first novice, Navy prevailed with a 6:38.6, while the Terriers were second in 6:48.0 and GW was third in 7:00.7. In the second novice, Navy was timed in 6:29.9 to the Terriers' 6:29.8. GW was third in 6:44. And Georgetown was fourth in 6:50.9.
In the afternoon regatta, the Terriers rowed past Georgetown by nearly six seconds, 6:24.87 to 6:30.47. In the second varsity, B.U. defeated the Georgetown lightweight varsity, 6:49.63 to 7:04.83. Finally, in the first novice race, Georgetown won the event with the Terriers finishing 3.75 seconds behind.
