Three Terriers Named To All-Regional Rowing Team
May 31, 2001 | Women's Rowing
Three members of the Terriers' women's rowing team were named to the New England All-Region First Team by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association The trio includes senior co-captain Fiola Foley (Kerry, Ireland), senior Amy Lawless (Chicago, Ill), and junior Maeve Schulz (Cincinnati, OH).
"I am very happy for the three," said Terrier women's coach Holly Hatton. "It is acknowledgement that their hard work paid off."
Each coach nominates three rowers from his or her varsity boat. These nominations are then forwarded to the coaches in the Region who must then vote for their All-Region Team. Not every crew has three rowers on the all-region team.
"This is the most competitive region in the country," said Hatton. "So, it is an added honor to make the New England All-Region team."
In all, there are five regions-New England, Central, South, Mid-Atlantic, and West.
During the recent NCAA Division 1 Championships, Foley was the stroke on the heavyweight boat, while Lawless sat in the five seat, and Schulz was the cox. As a boat, they were third in the Petite Finals, while the overall team, which included a second varsity and a four, finished 10th with 17 points, just six points shy of sixth-place finisher University of California.
