Crews Enjoy Solid Effort At Head Of Ohio Regatta
October 5, 2002 | Women's Rowing
The Terrier women won both the double and pairs events, while both the open four with and the open eight finished third at the Head of the Ohio Regatta that was held last Saturday (October 5th).
Braving the high winds and putting more attention on the smaller boats rather than on the eight, the Terriers put on a strong performance against other Division 1 crews.
In the doubles, Freddie Garnier, who stroked the boat, rowed with Kat Haimes as they finished in a winning time of 17:41.8, a full minute and 13 seconds ahead of runnerup Michigan State, which was clocked in 18:54.8.
In the pair, Kara Eiber, who stroked the boat, combined efforts with Kari Oversvee to row in 18:48.4, just one tenth of a second faster than number two Michigan (18:48.5).
The open four with cox placed third in 17:28.1. The boat consisted of cox Rachel Heckl, stroke Deidre Brown, Rachael Atkinson, Kate Larson, and Abbey Drake in the bow. The University of Notre Dame's A boat won the event in 17:04.7, while Michigan's A was second in 17:23.8.
Finally, in the open eight, the Terriers were timed in 15:11.9 behind first-place finisher Ohio State (14:31.1) and runnerup Michigan State (15:03.1). The boat included Taylor York at cox, Kat Haimes at stroke, Freddie Garnier, Kara Eiber, Kari Oversvee, Diana Bennett, Anna Sleator, Liana Berger and Jenn Welc in the bow.
