Women Rowers Split In Season Opener

The Terrier women's crew opened its 2002 outdoor season on a mixed note as it lost to host Syracuse but defeated Clemson on Saturday (March 30th). Rowing in conditions that featured a cross tailwind with the current going to the finish line, the Terriers finished second in the varsity, second varsity, and novice eight events.
In the varsity eight event, the Terriers were timed in 7:02.0 over the 2000-meter course on Onondaga Lake, while Syracuse covered the course in 6:53.87. Clemson was third in 7:06.9.
The margin was closer in the second varsity race where Syracuse won the event in 7:11.0, while the Terriers were clocked in 7:15.7 and Clemson was third in 7:20.8.
The novice eight event was the closest of the three races as B.U. was just 3.5 seconds behind the Orange. Syracuse rowed in 7:33.1, while the Terriers finished in 7:36.6. Clemson was third in 7:38.2 The final results
