West Hartford, CT- As the league’s leading scorer, sophomore guard Katie Terhune (Port Murray, NJ) was selected to the 2001-02 America East All-Conference First Team as announced yesterday at the America East Championship Tournament Banquet. In addition, freshman forward Adrienne Norris (Delafield, WI) was named to the America East All-Rookie Team.
Terhune scored in double figures in all but two games this season while leading the Terriers to their best record in seven years. A three-time Player of the Week honoree, the 5-foot-10 guard becomes the first Terrier in seven years to be named to the All-Conference First Team. Julie Schmidt was the last Terrier to earn First Team honors. Schmidt was honored in 1995.
In just two seasons, Terhune has become one the most prolific scorers in B.U. history. Terhune has totaled 930 points in 52 games and her 492 points this season is the third-highest single-season point total in Terrier history. Terhune was named to the All-Rookie Team and set a freshman scoring record with 438 points last season.
Norris became the first freshman in 12 years to lead B.U. in rebounding, averaging 6.4 boards to go along with 7.8 points a game. Jill Sosnak was the last rookie to lead the team in rebounding, totaling 216 during the 1990-91 campaign.
A 6-foot-2 forward, Norris started in 15 games for the Terriers and was honored on Jan. 28th as the league’s Rookie of the Week. Norris and classmate Larissa Parr were the only two Terriers to appear in all 27 games.
