Men's Basketball Signs Gardner To National Letter Of Intent
April 23, 2002 | Men's Basketball
Gardner was the leading scorer and rebounder for Peninsula High School during each of his three seasons on the varsity squad. He averaged 22.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest as a senior, after tallying 19.3 points and 8.4 boards for the Panthers in his junior season.
He was named the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section (CIF SS) Bay League MVP his senior season, and was a First Team All-League selection in both his junior and senior seasons. He earned a spot on the CIF SS Division I First Team in his senior season.
He was also a 2002 McDonald's High School All-America nominee. He chose Boston University over Denver, Tulane, and St. Mary's (CA).
Gardner joins forward Richard Bagby (Richmond, VA / The Collegiate School) and guard Shawn Wynn (Brooklyn, NY / Xavarian) in the Terriers' class of 2006. Bagby and Wynn each signed with the team during the early signing period last November.
Bagby led The Collegiate School in scoring - averaging 17.2 points - and rebounding last year. Wynn's Xavarian team won the Brooklyn-Queens Diocese championship last year after averaging 12 points and five assists per game.
Boston University is coming off one of its most successful seasons in the program's 100-year history. The Terriers finished with a 22-10 record, won the America East Conference Championship, and made the school's sixth-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
