Wojtkiewicz Named Assistant Men's Crew Coach
August 21, 2002 | Men's Rowing
John Wojtkiewicz, who served as a volunteer assistant coach with the Terrier freshman crew last year, has been named a full-time assistant on head coach Rodney Pratt's staff. He replaces Marco Bovo, who has left Boston for a coaching position in Miami, FL.
Wojtkiewicz returns to his alma mater where he was an outstanding rower for the Terriers during the early nineties. A 1995 graduate with a degree in European history, Wojtkiewicz was a member of the Terriers' Open 4+ that finished sixth in the Grand Finals at the 1994 IRA. The following year, he again finished sixth in the Grand Finals in the Men's Varsity 4 without.
Wojtkiewicz has continued to row competitively since graduation. During the 1998-1999 season, he rowed for the Community Rowing Club in Newton and since 1995, he has competed with the Wide Load Boat Club in Boston. It has been with this latter club that he has enjoyed most of his success. Rowing with them in 1994, he finished sixth in the Grand Finals in the Men's Intercollegiate 8 at the Canadian Henley. He also rowed with the Wide Load at the Head of the Charles in 1998, 2000, and 2001. In 1998, his Men's Club 1x finished 40th of 52 boats. In 2000, his Men's Club 8 was 23rd of 68, while in 2001, his Men's Club 1x was 40th of 52 boats.
Wojtkiewicz began his coaching career in 1996 when he was the head coach of both the men's and women's varsity crews at Clark University in Worcester. His responsibilities included scheduling for both men's and women's crews, planning and organizing practices for between 30 and 40 rowers, handling all budgetary and administrative tasks, maintaining all equipment, and managing two assistants.
After two years at Clark, he took a position as an associate analyst with the Yankee Group, a strategic research and advisory services company in Boston. He remained there from 1999-2001 when he was named a market research consultant for Impole Corporation, which is a primary market research and analysis services company in Waltham. This is the position he held prior to his being named a full-time coach for the Terriers.
