Women Swimmers Open Season With Loss To Northeastern

The Terrier women's swimming and diving team opened its 2003-04 season on a down note on Saturday with a 172.5 to 127.5 loss at home against conference-rival Northeastern.
The Terriers captured just six of 16 events, with sophomore Lidija Breznikar (Kotpje, Slovenia) leading the way. She won three of the four events in which she was entered-the 200-yard butterfly in 2:08.33, the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:22.44, and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:09.93.
Other notable performances were turned in by freshman Salina Herdman (Melville, NY), senior diver Stacey Gallacher (Horseheads, NY), and junior Lauren Foster (Lake Quivira, KS). Herdman won the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:53.52, while Gallacher continued her dominance in the one-meter dive with a winning point total of 257.33. Finally, Foster led the way in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:16.29.
The women will try to even their win-loss record on Saturday, November 1 with a home meet against New Hampshire. It is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
