Men Open Spring Season With Win Over Syracuse

BOSTON, MA - It took a strong finish in the last 500 meters for Terrier men's crew to defeat Syracuse University in the season opener on the Charles River on Saturday, March 26th on the Charles River.
In the first varsity race, the two teams were tied after the first 1,500 meters of the 2,000-meter race before the Terriers put on a strong sprint in the final 500 meters en route to the victory. BU finished with a time of 5:52.95, while the Orange were timed in 5:55.04
Heather Constant (coxswain), William Daly (stroke), Jens Robatzek (7), Jozef Klassen (6), Jaxon Rudduck (5), Martin Bahls (4), Florian Mennigen (3), Adam Bright (2), and Anders Holmberg (bow) competed for the Terriers in the first varsity race.
BU also won the second varsity and first freshmen races, with Syracuse taking the second freshman race.
In the second varsity race, BU finished with a time of 6:05.38, slightly ahead of Syracuse's 6:06.47. Michael Cheng (cox), Cody Gantz (stroke), Eric Millard (7), Anthony Mullin (6), Fergus Hodgson (5), Russell Cohn (4), Michael Sugar (3), Eliot Hopper (2), and Lucasz Turolski (bow) competed for the Terriers in the second varsity race.
The Terriers' first freshman boat (6:11.59) was most impressive en route to a nearly 19-second win over Syracuse (6:30.53). Martin Yates (cox), Justin Martin (stroke), Brandon Batey (7), Andreas Brinck (6), Ian Adams (5), Matthew Trevithick (4), Peter Stetson (3), Edward Walton (2), and Clay Garthe (bow) competed for BU in the first freshman race.
Syracuse's lone victory came in the second freshman race. The Orangemen finished at 6:28.73, compared to BU's 6:30.84. Andrea Rosemann (cox), Shawn Amand (stroke), Aleander Farr (7), Andre Guzman (6), Matthew Seminario (5), Jonathan Cerepak (4), Peter Vijeh (3), Ryan Leon (2), and Steven Pytlar (bow) rowed for the Terriers.
