BRUNSWICK, NJ-The Terrier men's crew executed well through the first three quarters of the race but fell victim to a sprint by Dartmouth and finished second to the Big Green but beat host Rutgers in the featured varsity eight race on Saturday, April 16.
The Terriers covered he 2000-meter course in 6:03.6, while Dartmouth was clocked in 6:08.2, while Rutgers was third in 6:12.4.
The Terriers got off to an excellent start and moved out to a two- to three-seat lead through the first 750 meters of the race. Then, at that point, the Terriers fell victim to being on the outside lane and seemed to lose sight of the other two crews. Dartmouth took advantage of its position and made a move to take the lead in the middle 500 meters. The Terriers were not able to respond as their rowing was not crisp, and, as a result, the Big Green was able to keep the lead and row to the victory.
The second varsity fared better as it rowed to nearly a seven-second win over Dartmouth and a nine-second victory over Rutgers.
The Terriers, who were in control the entire race, rowed in 6:14.1 to Dartmouth's 6:21.6 and Rutgers' 6:23.2.
The first freshmen also won their race by a comfortable margin by outrowing Rutgers, 6:19.9 to 6:24.3. Dartmouth was third in 6:31.8. Finally, the second frosh lost to Rutgers in a tough race. The Scarlet Knights rowed in 6:37.9 to the Terriers' 6:41.0
