BOSTON - Boston University rowers Will Daly and Jozef Klaassen will compete at the World Under-23 Championships that will be held July 21-24 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Daly, a senior from Vail, Colo., will represent the United States in the lightweight straight four without coxswain event, while Klaassen, who holds a dual citizenship in both New Zealand and Holland, will row for Holland in the heavyweight straight four without coxswain.
During the past intercollegiate season, Daly rowed in the number seven seat, while Klaassen was in the five seat for the Terriers, who enjoyed their finest season ever. In post-season competition, BU advanced to the Grand Finals at both the Eastern Sprints and IRA National Championship. At the Sprints, the Terriers finished fourth, while they were sixth at the IRAs.
"It is very exciting to know that two of our rowers will be representing their countries at a World Championship," said Rodney Pratt, who will be entering his 16th season as the Terrier head coach.
"It shows the strength of our program. And, considering the two are both returning for the 2005-06 season, it bodes well for the future."
