
Swimming and Diving Sweeps URI on Senior Day

BOSTON – The Boston University swimming and diving teams ended their regular season in fine fashion Saturday, sweeping a dual meet against the University of Rhode Island at the Fitness and Recreation Center. The Terrier men won 140-101, while the women downed the Rams 137-92. The victories improved both Terrier teams to 4-4 in dual meet competition. It was the last dual meet before the America East Championships, hosted by BU Feb. 16-19.
The Terrier women were dominant throughout and recorded their largest victory since a 177-118 humbling of Binghamton in the season-opener. Lauren Cammisano got things kicked off with a victory in the 100 Free (10:58.35), and BU swept a pair of freestyle events behind Christina Ruggiero in the 200 Free (1:58.36) and Megan Brieland in the 50 Free (25.12). Marina Morie won the Terriers fourth straight individual event with a personal-best 2:11.58 in the 200 IM, just beating freshman sensation Eve Kinsella (2:11.99) to the touch.
Alex Crerar and Megan White finished 1-2 in both diving events, and Bronwen Price set a personal best with a victory in the 200 Fly ( 2:16.12). Other strong performances included Kinsella winning the 100 Free (54.57), just edging Natalie Boyd (54.61); Lidija Breznikar capturing the 200 Back (2:08.99) by almost eight seconds; and Ruggiero running away with the 500 Free (5:11.50).
On the men’s side, Greg Dierksen led the way, winning the 200 Free (1:48.96) and setting a season-best in the 500 Free at 4:49.89. Mike Kelly was victorious in the 50 Free (21.85) and the 100 Free (47.87), while Evan Morris set a personal-best in the 200 IM (2:08.50). Brian Lawler continued his dominance in the diving events, winning the one-meter (296.93) and the three-meter (298.65). Meanwhile, Harry Kim turned in his best performance of the year in the three-meter, finishing second with 194.7 points.
Matt Watkins had a strong day, finishing second in both the 200 Back (2:01.73) and the 200 Free (1:50.65). Griffin Moodie set a season-best in the 200 Breast, winning the event in 2:13.21, over three seconds better than URI’s John Proctor.
The meet was the regular-season finale for BU's 11 seniors: Brian Patton, Natalie Boyd, Megan Brieland, Janelle Cardoza, Kila Englebrook, Brittnye Kuzmick, Hannah Mulry, Bronwen Price, Ryan Falk, Mike Kelly and Michael McGrath.
