
Swim Team Downs BC in Unique Relay Meet

CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. - The Boston University men’s and women’s swim teams defeated Boston College in a unique relay meet Tuesday afternoon 765-675. The teams swam in mixed groups and unconventional distances, as both squads prepared for their upcoming conference championship meets.
BU won the first event, a 200-yard medley relay, with women swimming the first two legs and men the final two legs. The combination of Lidija Breznikar, team captains Libby Ariazi, Mike Kelly and Mike McGrath finished in 1:47.73 to defeat teammates Jonathan Melloul, Griffin Moodie, Jennifer Liu and Megan Breiland by .22 seconds.
In the next event, the Terriers won the mixed 400-yard medley relay, with McGrath and Breznikar teaming with Marina Morie and Ryan Falk for a victorious time of 4:03.22. Teammates Eve Kinsella, Greg Dierksen, James Lands and Christina Ruggiero were second at 4:07.03.
In the mixed 300-yard butterfly relay, the BU combo of Moodie, Lands, Morie and Liu claimed first place with a time of 2:47.78, more than seven seconds faster than second place BC. In the mixed 300-yard breaststroke relay, Breiland, Falk, Breznikar and Moodie cruised to victory in 3:11.88, almost 13 seconds better than the second place squad of Morie, Laura Hammdorf, Harrison Kobb and Adam Motowidlo.
The Terriers will return to action for the America East Championships Feb. 16-19 at the Fitness and Recreation Center on BU’s campus. Tickets can be purchased by calling Boston University at 617-353-4637. Boston University will accept Master Card, Visa and Discover and the office will be open from 9:00am until 5:00pm, Monday-Friday. All tickets will be held for pick up.
