Ryan, Breznikar Headline AE Academic Honor Roll Selections

BOSTON – Boston University had 120 student-athletes named to the America East Academic Honor Roll in the winter/spring seasons for achieving a grade point average of 3.0 or better. Of the 120 student-athletes, 54 earned Commissioner’s Cup honors for achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or better. The men’s and women’s track & field programs led the way with 17 in each of the winter and spring seasons.
BU also had two student-athletes named America East Scholar-Athletes. Junior Marissa Ryan (Farmington, Conn.) of the women’s indoor track & field team and junior Lidja Breznikar (Kotlje, Slovenia) of the women’s swimming and diving team were named the Scholar-Athlete for their respective sport.
The scholar-athletes were selected by a committee of athletic administrators and NCAA Faculty Athletics Representatives that chose an honoree in each of the 16 winter/spring championship sports. Each honoree was a starter or prominent reserve and carries a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.20.
Ryan, a member of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All District Team, was enrolled in Boston University's extremely competitive accelerated medical program, through which she will complete her bachelor's degree and medical degree, overlapping the two programs, in seven years. She finished 10th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA East Regional Outdoor Championships and was second at the America East Cross Country Championship. Ryan also set a new America East Indoor 3,000-meter record at the conference’s indoor championship.
Breznikar was a Dean’s List student in five out of six semesters, most recently posting a 4.0 in the spring semester of 2006. A three-time member of America East’s Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Breznikar was also a member of the America East All-Academic Team, while holding three school records in the pool.
