NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Led by first-place finishes by junior David Proctor and senior Marisa Ryan, the Boston University cross country team won both the men's and women's race at Ted Owen Invitational, hosted by Central Connecticut State University on Saturday.
The 17th-ranked women placed six runners in the top ten, including Ryan's winning time of 17:23. Ryan also won last week's season opener at the BU Invitational. With five runners in the top seven, the women posted an impressive score of 20 to soundly defeat UConn (52), Marist (78), Rhode Island (98), CCSU (135) and Fairfield (161).
Proctor finished the five-mile run in 26:53 to lead a group of six Terriers in the top ten. Like the women, the BU men had their five scorers place in the top seven to run away with the team title. The Terriers' score of 23 points was more than enough to defeat UConn (43), CCSU (75) and Fairfield (100).
The team will take a three-week break from competion before returning to Boston to compete in the New England Championships on Saturday, Oct. 7 at Franklin Park.
