BOSTON - Boston University women's crew participated in the Princeton Chase on Sunday, Oct. 28 against several of their Eastern Sprints rivals. Senior Elene Brett-Evans (Toronto, Ont.) finished first in the Women's Single, while senior Veronika Karlsson (Sydkoster, Sweden) placed third in the same event. The Terriers had boats in the eight, the pair and the open four events as well.
Under clear skies and a gusty cross-tailwind the Terriers first varsity eight came 10th of 45 crews in a time of 15:11.57. The second varsity eight placed 35th in a time of 16:14.01.
The team's best results came in the small boat races. Four of the varsity eight rowers doubled up and were rewarded with strong performances. Racing under swirling wind conditions, Brett-Evans captured the win in the Women's Single beating out the sculler from the University of Virginia in a time of 18:53.79. It was the third time in five years that BU has won this annual event. Teammate Karlsson placed third in the same six boat race. In the Women's Pair, BU placed second of five boats behind Cornell.
In the last race of the day, the Women's Open Four, the Terrier crew placed fifth of 39 boats, in a time of 17:30.06 in a strong field.
