CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Freshman John Holland (Bronx, N.Y./St. Benedict's Prep) received his first-ever America East Rookie of the Week nod after coming off the bench to score 12 points on 4-for-7 shooting in Boston University's (1-0) 68-57 win over St. Bonaventure to open the season on Nov. 9.
Holland was 2-for-4 from the 3-point line and added two rebounds, an assist and a steal. He hit a three and slammed home a dunk as part of an early seven-point BU swing in the first half and added his final seven points in the second half on a dunk, a trey and a pair of free throws.
He currently ranks eighth in the America East in field goal percentage (.571) and ninth in 3-point field goal percentage (.500).
Holland is the second straight Terrier to earn AE Rookie honors to open a season. In 2006-07, then-freshman Carlos Strong (Portland, Maine) earned the recognition after a 19-point effort in a loss to George Washington.
BU takes on George Washington on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Smith Athletic Center in Washington, D.C.
