Women's Crew Finishes Third In Inaugural Beanpot
April 28, 2007 | Women's Rowing
BOSTON - Boston University women's crew placed third in the first annual Beanpot regatta between BU, Boston College, Northeastern, Radcliffe and MIT Saturday morning on the Charles River.
Radcliffe won both the varsity cup and the team banner with 24 points. Northeastern was second with 17, narrowly edging out the Terriers who tallied 16 points. Boston College (9) and MIT (4) rounded out the field. The Allen-DeWolfe Trophy, between Radcliffe and BU, and the Council Cup, between Northeastern and BU, were also contested today. Radcliffe and Northeastern took home their respective cups with the Terriers.
BU's varsity 4+B provided five of the Terriers' points when it won the very last race of the day. BU trailed Radcliffe's B boat for the first 1250m before the Terriers made a push from a 1/2 length behind and took a full length off Radcliffe by 1500m to go ahead. Radcliffe made a push in the final 200m, but BU held on for the win.
In the varsity eight race, Radcliffe and Northeastern jumped out ahead, while BU and BC dueled for the third spot. BC had it for the first 800m, but the Terriers fought back and took a 3/4 length lead midway through the race. The Eagles made a strong late move, but BU crossed the line 0.4 seconds ahead of BC. The Terriers also placed third in the second varsity eight, varsity 4+ A, and novice eight races. The second novice eight notched its first win of the season, defeating Radcliffe by 8.3 seconds.
Next up, BU competes in the Eastern Sprints on Sunday, May 13 in Cherry Hill, N.J.
