May 11, 2007 | Men's Rowing
Worcester, Mass.—No. 12 Boston University men’s crew will compete in the 2007 EARC Eastern Sprints on Sunday, May 13 at Lake Quinsigmund. The Terriers will compete in the varsity eight, the JV eight and the first and second freshman eights.
In the varsity eight, BU is seeded 12th and will row against top-seeded Harvard, sixth-seeded Syracuse, seventh-seeded Cornell, 13th-seeded, Rutgers and 18th-seeded MIT. In the JV race, the Terriers are seeded 13th and will face top-seeded Brown, sixth-seeded Columbia, 12th-seeded Syracuse, 13th-seeded Holy Cross, and 18th-seeded MIT. The freshman eight is seeded seventh and will be matched against top-seeded Harvard, sixth-seeded Columbia, 12th-seeded Syracuse, 13th-seeded Holy Cross and 18th-seeded MIT. The second freshman eight is seeded second – the highest of all four Terrier boats entered – and will row against third-seeded Penn, sixth-seeded Yale and seventh-seeded Georgetown.
Although BU has yet to take the title since the inception of the Eastern Sprints in 1946, the Terriers earned their best overall varsity finish in 2005 when the team placed fourth. Not only was that BU’s best-ever finish, but it also marked the Terriers’ first trip to the Grand Final since 1990 when the team placed sixth.
Last season, the third varsity fours garnered the silver medal in its event, the second freshman boat took sixth in the Grand Final and the varsity eight finished sixth in its Petite Final to place 12th overall.
