Men???s Crew Announces Class of 2011

BOSTON – Boston University men’s crew announced today the signings of 17 incoming freshman that make up the core of the crew program’s Class of 2011. The newcomers primarily come from Florida and New England with the addition of two Dutch rowers.
Danny Arbucias, Geoff Ciarlone, Alex Dermond, Anthony Puentes, John Seibler, John Stansel and Bianca Wieczorek all hail from the Sunshine State. Arbucias was the state championship runner-up in the varsity eight as a sophomore and won the Florida state title in the freshman 4+. Wieczorek is a three-time state champion and won the Stotesbury Cup silver medal and the bronze medal at the Scholastic Nationals in the senior eight as a junior.
Orin Hall, Mike Morabito, Chris Myers and Richard Su come to BU from the New England region. Hall and Morabito are New York natives. Hall finished 19th of 81 in the Youth Eight event at the Head of the Charles as a senior and his crew was the New York state champion his junior year. Myers and Su are each a product of eastern Massachusetts. Myers, a coxswain, was undefeated in league races as a senior and finished third at the NEIRA and second at the Head of the Charles that same year.
Sjoerd Klem and Wijnand Schoemakers will cross the Atlantic to attend BU in the fall. Both come from the Netherlands. Klem is the brother of current Terrier Meindert Klem, who will take 2007-08 off to train for the 2008 Olympics.
Michael Conroy and Michael Schmitt hail from Pennsylvania and New Jersey, respectively, while Christ Kamberos and James Petersen are from Illinois. Kamberos’ finished 11th at SRAAs and tenth at Youth Nationals in the varsity eight as a senior, and his novice eight placed second at the Midwest Championships junior year.
