BOSTON - Boston University men's crew alumnus Florian Mennigen won the coxed four in 6:12.89 at the Rowing World Cup this past weekend in Lucerne, Switzerland. BU's Meindert Klem also competed and finished second in the "C" Final of the men's 4x.
Mennigen and his boat, rowing for Germany, were behind the Netherlands in the first 500m by just 0.036. However, by the 1000m mark, the Germans had edged out in front of the Dutch and held a five-second lead on the Italians. By 1500m, Mennigen's crew had a one-second lead on the Netherlands and a nine-second advantage over Italy.
In the quadruple sculls, Klem's boat held the lead throughout the "C" final, but in the last 500m the Italians made a push on the Dutch and took the lead to win by just under a second. Klem's crew finished second in 6:00.44.
